the phoenix

Ok, so I've decided to start putting some of my older work up here, this is the first of the bunch

A naked woman mournfully crouches over a dead phoenix before the resurrection.

It actually represents a bit of a theory, but I've always disliked explaining my(self & my) work, and prefer people to draw their own conclusions

It's oil on canvas, from mid-2004, primed with gesso & black acrylic, and what you see here is not only a WiP but my only image of the painting itself. Sorry about the crappy jpg, if i had better i'd post it.

edit: forgot to add that the dimensions are 750mm x 750mm

Unfortunately it got appropriated before complete, so i never got to finish it. Or for that matter, ever see it again. Which was a shame.

But i still love the idea and the mood of it so perhaps one of these days I'll make a bigger better brighter version. This was only about 8-12 hrs work over a few weeks, so was really just the tip of the iceberg for it.

i like to spend a long time gestating on these works and tend to layer them over and over again, a lot of my actual physical paintings undergo many many transformations.
